A luxury Airbus A330 aircraft, valued at N150 billion, has landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, sparking debate over its hefty price tag amidst economic challenges. The jet, acquired for President Tinubu’s use, boasts luxurious features such as a bedroom, office, conference room, and first-class seating.
The aircraft touched down at 8:29 pm on Sunday, August 19, ahead of President Tinubu’s scheduled trip to France. However, its acquisition has been shrouded in controversy, with many questioning the expense amidst record inflation and economic struggles.
The government maintains that the aircraft is essential for diplomatic engagements and national security. Despite the controversy, the government is poised to utilize the jet for official trips, starting with President Tinubu’s visit to France.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja, the nation’s capital, on Monday, August 19, for a brief working visit to France, according to Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. The President will return to Nigeria upon completion of his official engagements in France.
