The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over $180,300 and 53 vehicles to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, recovered from Nigerians who fraudulently obtained them from Canadian citizens through cybercrimes.
The returned assets were recovered through a collaborative effort between the EFCC and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, highlighting the global nature of financial crimes and the need for international cooperation.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede emphasized the importance of joint operations in combating financial crimes, stating that the commission’s collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has resulted in multiple recoveries and successful operations.
The recovered funds include $164,000 from a victim named Elena and $16,300 from another victim, all obtained through cybercrimes. The 53 vehicles and funds will be returned to the Canadian victims of the financial crimes.
This operation demonstrates the EFCC’s commitment to fighting financial crimes and its dedication to working with international partners to bring perpetrators to justice and recover stolen assets.
