Ekiti NYSC Camp Incident: Olawande Confirms No Fatalities, Calls for Calm

Ayodele Olawande, Minister of State for Youth Development, has called for calm and reassured the public that there were no fatalities in the partial toilet collapse incident that occurred early Friday, July 12, 2024, at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ise Orun, Emure Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The minister said the situation is under control and there is no cause for alarm.

The Minister confirmed that the injured individuals, including two corps members, are receiving medical care and assured that their conditions are being closely monitored. He appealed to the parents and guardians of those affected by the unfortunate incident to remain calm and assured them that everything possible is being done to ensure the well-being of their loved ones.

“What happened in Ekiti NYSC Camp is unfortunate, but we are on top of the situation. We would work with the Ekiti State government to significantly improve the facilities on Camp to ensure this kind of ugly incident never reoccur,” Olawande promised.

The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare, safety, and well-being of all young people. He encouraged corps members across the country to continue their camp activities without apprehension, promising to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to review and improve the conditions of NYSC camps nationwide, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all.
