By Nafiu Toyin Abdulqadri.
Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, has expressed his condolences to the victims of the recent fire outbreaks in Ilorin, which resulted in the loss of property worth millions of Naira. The Emir, who is also the Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, urged residents to be safety conscious and protect their lives and property.
Speaking before his departure from Istanbul, Turkey, on Sunday, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari described the fire outbreaks as “unfortunate” and prayed for Almighty Allah’s support for the victims. He also commiserated with the family and friends of Tunji Abdulqodir, who died in police custody on Saturday.
The Emir called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate the circumstances surrounding Abdulqodir’s death, describing it as a “rude shock” and “regrettable incidence.” He also advised security agencies to enforce professionalism and comply with global ethical standards in their dealings with the public.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police has directed the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) to take over the investigation into Abdulqodir’s death. The IGP visited Kwara State on Sunday, where he met with the deceased’s family and assured them of a thorough investigation.
