The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) monthly allowance has been increased to N77,000, effective July 2024. This is a significant boost from the previous allowance of N33,000, which had been in place since 2019.
According to Caroline Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NYSC, the approval was contained in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024. This increase is in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on July 29, 2024.
The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, had advocated for a robust welfare package for corps members during a visit to the Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. The NYSC boss has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the timely gesture, noting that it will bring much-needed succour to corps members, boost their morale, and motivate them to contribute more meaningfully to national development.
