The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, October 1, 2024, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day. This announcement was made by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, through a statement issued by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary in the ministry.
In his declaration, Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of unity in building a better Nigeria. “A Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite,” he stated, while congratulating Nigerians at home and abroad for their sacrifices towards nation-building. He urged citizens to remain steadfast in their efforts to build a stronger nation.
This year’s independence celebration comes amidst plans by some groups to stage protests against the country’s economic management and rising hunger. The protests, scheduled to coincide with the independence anniversary, aim to draw attention to the challenges facing the nation.
