In order to ensure that only eligible students gain admission to Nigerian universities, the Federal Government has announced a new policy requiring applicants to meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years.
Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, revealed this on Channels TV’s “Sunday Politics” programme, stating that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will enforce this rule starting from next year.
Additionally, the Minister disclosed that NECO and WAEC will no longer allow underage candidates to write their examinations, further solidifying the government’s commitment to upholding this new standard.
This policy aims to curb the trend of underage students gaining admission to universities, promoting a more conducive learning environment, and ensuring that students are emotionally and intellectually prepared for higher education.
