The Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (KWASEMA) has issued a warning to residents to desist from blocking waterways, urging them to allow free flow of water in gutters and drainage.
According to KWASEMA Secretary, Mallam Saadu Mashood Magaji, dumping refuse and dirt into waterways can have dire consequences, exacerbating the risk of flooding.
In a statement released on Sunday via the agency’s social media page, Magaji appealed to residents to support the government’s proactive measures to address flood threats.
“We commend Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman’s dedication to tackling flood threats head-on,” Magaji said. “Let’s work together to prevent flooding and ensure a safer Kwara.”
KWASEMA distributed multilingual fliers emphasizing the importance of adhering to environmental laws and avoiding harmful practices.
Residents are advised to:
– Avoid dumping refuse and dirt into waterways
– Clear gutters and drainage of debris
– Support government initiatives to prevent flooding
With the rainy season still ongoing, KWASEMA’s warning aims to mitigate the risk of flooding and ensure public safety.
Residents are urged to take immediate action to protect their communities and contribute to a safer Kwara State.
