Chaos erupted in Ilorin today as motorcycle and tricycle riders took to the streets to protest the soaring fuel prices in the city. The riders, who are the backbone of the city’s transportation system, mounted roadblocks across major roads, causing gridlock and disrupting daily activities.
The protest, which began early in the morning, is a result of the riders’ frustration with the increasing fuel prices, which they say is threatening their livelihood. The riders are demanding that the government take immediate action to reduce fuel prices and alleviate their suffering.
“We can’t continue to operate at a loss,” said one of the protesters. “The high fuel prices are making it difficult for us to make ends meet. We are struggling to feed our families, and the government seems not to care.”
The protest has caused significant disruptions in the city, with many motorists forced to turn back or find alternative routes. Shop owners along the popular Ibrahim Taiwo road have also been affected, with some forced to close their businesses temporarily.
The government has yet to respond to the protesters’ demands, but it’s clear that the situation is becoming increasingly tense. The riders are determined to continue their protest until their demands are met, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold.
As the protest continues, residents are advised to avoid major roads and find alternative routes. The situation is being monitored by INSIDERNG, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
