The Ilorin Emirate Students’ Union has announced the launch of a series of career talks and mentorship sessions for senior secondary school students within the Emirate. In a statement signed by its National President, Sheikh Nurul-Akeem Raji Akorede, the union revealed that the program, titled “Summer Lessons Catch Them Young,” will be held across 100 summer classes in the five Local Government Areas of the Ilorin Emirate. The initiative aims to introduce students to various career paths and instill vital societal values.
Twenty first-class graduates from various disciplines will share their experiences and offer guidance to the young learners. The initiative is supported by the Saliu Mustapha Foundation, a non-governmental organization founded by Senator Saliu Mustapha, who represents the Kwara Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
The program seeks to mold young minds, preparing them for academic success and their future roles as productive and value-driven members of society. Participants will benefit from mentorship by accomplished individuals who have excelled in fields such as medicine, law, engineering, and the social sciences.
Hajia Fatimoh Dikko, an educational consultant to the student body, highlighted the significance of early mentorship, stating that the initiative offers a chance to mold the future of the community. “By introducing these young students to accomplished role models, we’re not only inspiring them but also equipping them with a clear pathway to achieve their own success,” she emphasized, underscoring the long-term benefits of this approach.
Through interactive discussions, the career talks will cover topics including career choice, personal development, and goal setting. Students will also be guided on how to navigate challenges in their academic and future professional lives while maintaining a strong ethical foundation.
According to Barrister Alabi Abdulkareem, educational consultants and stakeholders have praised the initiative, citing the long-term benefits of early mentorship for students. He noted that Senator Saliu Mustapha’s foundation is supporting the project, demonstrating the Senator’s commitment to partnering with the Kwara state Government to promote sustainable development through education.
