In a historic move, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has appointed Prof. Medinat Folorunsho Salman as the pioneer Acting Vice Chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED) in Ilorin. This marks a significant milestone for the university and the state, as Prof. Salman becomes the first female professor from Ilorin Emirate to hold this esteemed position.
Prof. Salman brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as a senior lecturer at the department of science education and coordinator of the Educational Technology Centre at the University of Ilorin. Her academic credentials are impressive, with a Bachelor of Education from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (1985), a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Ilorin (1990), and a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Ilorin (1998).
Her research interests align with the university’s goals, focusing on Mathematics Education, gender issues in mathematics and science education, and innovation in mathematics education in the developing world. With her expertise and leadership, Prof. Salman is poised to drive academic excellence and innovation at KWSUED.
The appointment takes immediate effect, as announced by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, on September 24, 2024. This development is a testament to Governor AbdulRazaq’s commitment to education and empowering women in leadership positions.
