The Kwara South Youth Congress has expressed deep concern over a recent article by the Ibolo Renaissance Network (IRN) alleging land encroachment by the residents of Offa town. The article, which claims to represent the views of Col. Nurudeen Yusuf, the Aide-de-Camp to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been described as “rife with inaccuracies” and a “direct affront to the dignity” of the people of Offa.
The IRN’s assertions imply that Offa has a history of annexing lands belonging to neighbouring communities, but the organization has failed to provide any tangible evidence to support these claims. The Kwara South Youth Congress has rejected these allegations, calling for a respectful dialogue grounded in truth and mutual understanding.
Adejare Bashir, the publicity secretary for the Kwara State Youth Council, emphasized that the claims have escalated beyond mere speculation and that the faceless IRN is attempting to mislead the public. Bashir pointed out that concerned victims have already submitted formal petitions against Col. Yusuf, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
The Offa Descendants Union has initiated a thorough investigation into the allegations, while residents of the Igberi-Enle community in Offa have submitted a petition to the Kwara State Government. Various petitions have also been lodged with the Department of State Services and other relevant agencies.
The Kwara South Youth Congress has warned that any aggression directed towards the peaceful and law-abiding citizens of Offa could escalate into a broader communal crisis. The organization has called for dialogue and decision-making to be guided by principles of law, equity, and common sense.
