In a bid to alleviate the impact of the protest that happened earlier today in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has ordered the deployment of free buses across the metropolis. The initiative aims to provide smoother transportation for commuters, particularly those attending the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) job placement interviews.
According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the free bus service will transport people to central destinations at no cost. The move is part of the government’s efforts to prioritize the public good and mitigate the effects of the fuel price hike.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his regret over the inconveniences caused by the fuel price increase and assured residents that the situation is being reviewed by various government stakeholders. He expressed confidence that the challenges would ease soon.
Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, a prominent figure in the opposition party, PDP, shared his thoughts on the free bus service initiative with InsiderNg over the phone. While acknowledging the relief it brings to commuters in Ilorin who were affected by the transport strike and fuel price hike, he emphasized that the government needs to go beyond this gesture. Abdulqadir stressed that more comprehensive initiatives are required to convincingly demonstrate the government’s commitment to citizens’ welfare, thereby earning their trust in its ability to address the state’s challenges effectively.
