The Kwara State Government has concluded a three-day capacity-building training and summit for community-based organizations (CBOs), with a focus on inclusive development and sustainable growth. The event, which took place in three locations across the state, was attended by over 900 CBOs from all 16 local government areas.

The training, organized by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, aimed to foster awareness, deepen participatory democracy, and promote sustainable development at the grassroots level.

Participants received lectures from renowned scholars and community development practitioners on measures and strategies to protect existing public projects, initiate new ones, and champion development at the community level.

The state government has promised to award grants and certificates of merit to outstanding communities, following an appraisal by an independent panel. The government will also provide funding for “self-help” projects initiated by the CBOs.

The initiative has been commended by stakeholders, including the National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Abdulmalik, who described it as a step in the right direction for inclusive development.

The participants have praised the government for the initiative and called for continuous partnership with CBOs for inclusive governance and sustainable development in the state.
