The Kwara State Government is set to distribute assorted fertilizers to deserving farmers statewide through community organizations. This community-based approach was advocated by participants at the recent Kwara Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) Summit.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved the distribution method, demonstrating his commitment to citizen engagement. A committee comprising local government representatives, community leaders, and stakeholders will ensure effective grassroots distribution.
The summit report recommended reintroducing the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) and hiring more farm extension workers. Participants also urged the government to adopt a community approach for future farm input distribution.
According to Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Development, the initiative aims to boost agricultural productivity and empower local farmers. Dr. Olohungbebe thanked the governor for accepting the summit recommendations and described him as a listener who has the best interests of his people.
