The 2024 Kwara Free Summer Coding and Digital Literacy Program held its exhibition, graduation, and prize presentation ceremony in Ilorin yesterday, showcasing impressive projects developed by students from various schools.
Hon. Kayode Ishola, Special Assistant on Digital Innovations, praised the students’ enthusiasm and digital skills acquired during the six-week program, thanking the state government and parents for their support.
The program, designed for students aged 11-15, aimed to equip them with essential digital skills to compete globally. Over 1,000 applications were received, with 500 students selected to participate in the six-week program held across six centers in the state’s three senatorial districts.
Students showcased innovative projects, including:
– Website Development
– Games Development
– Python programming skills
– Traffic Light Systems using SCRATCH
These projects demonstrated the students’ newfound skills in digital literacy and coding. Prof. Abiodun Aibinu, Summit University’s Vice Chancellor and guest speaker, emphasized the shift from physical to knowledge-based education, urging students to embrace the opportunities presented by digital literacy.
Awards were presented to students in categories such as:
– Best Innovation
– Most Dedicated Centre
– Best Project Exhibition
– and more
Hon. Kayode Ishola celebrated the students’ achievements, encouraging them to continue developing their digital skills. He noted that this initiative is part of the Kwara State Government’s efforts to invest in technology-driven programs, such as KwaraLEARN, to build students’ capacity in ICT.
