The Kwara State Government has commenced a free Summer Digital Coding class for students of public secondary schools across the state. The program, designed to equip students with digital skills, will run for six weeks across six centers in the three senatorial districts.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Innovation, Hon. Kayode Ishola, emphasized the importance of digital literacy in the modern age.
“The government understands that for students to have a competitive edge globally, they need to have digital skills, especially now that external exams like JAMB, WAEC, and NECO are computer-based.”
The program will focus on introduction to digital literacy, coding, and other digital skills. Over 1,000 applications were received, but only 500 students between the ages of 11 and 15 were selected.
The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to transform the educational sector through technology-driven programs like KwaraLEARN. Participants praised the government for the opportunity, promising to utilize the knowledge to advance national development.
The program aims to boost critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills among public school students, enabling them to compete with their global counterparts and contribute to solving national challenges.
