The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has categorically rejected the results of Saturday’s Local Government election, condemning it as a travesty of democracy and a blatant waste of taxpayers’ money. The party accused Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration and the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) of colluding to subvert the people’s will.
In a statement issued on September 23, 2024, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, Kwara PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, described the election as a “desecration of democracy” that denied over 85% of electorates their right to vote. Adewara alleged that KWSIEC’s actions fell short of global standards, facilitating and participating in electoral fraud.
The PDP demanded immediate cancellation of the election and conduct of fresh polls, threatening legal action if ignored. They also rejected the tribunal set up by Abdulrazaq’s administration, citing constitutional stipulations.
Adewara criticized Governor Abdulrazaq for orchestrating electoral fraud to maintain control over local government allocations and install loyalists. The party also slammed KWSIEC Chairman Alhaji Okanla Baba for compromising his dignity and the state’s integrity.
The PDP expressed gratitude to its members, supporters, and the people of Kwara State for exercising their civil rights and called for their continued support in demanding a free and fair election.
