Minimum Wage: Gov AbdulRazaq Sets Up Committee to Address Consequential Adjustment for Workers
In response to the newly pegged national minimum wage of N70,000, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has set up a tripartite committee to negotiate consequential adjustments for senior cadres of workers in the state.
The committee, comprising representatives from the state government, labour unions, and the organized private sector, aims to work out the details of the adjustments. Chaired by the Head of Service, with the Commissioner for Finance as co-chair, the committee includes various government officials, labour leaders, and private sector representatives.
The labour sector is represented by leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, Joint Negotiation Council, and other labour organizations. The private sector is represented by the Kwara Chamber of Commerce (KWACCIMA), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), and the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises.
According to Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the committee’s establishment is a proactive step by the Kwara State government to address the implications of the new national minimum wage and ensure a harmonious relationship between workers and government. Ajakaye said the committee is expected to work diligently to reach a mutually beneficial agreement for all parties.
