The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to complete the mandatory verification and linkage of SIMs to National Identity Numbers (NINs) by September 14, 2024.
In a statement signed by Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, the NCC expressed satisfaction with the significant progress made in the NIN-SIM linkage policy, which was introduced by the Federal Government in 2020.
As of now, over 153 million SIMs have been successfully linked to their NINs, representing a 96% compliance rate, up from 69.7% in January 2024. The NCC is urging Nigerians to cooperate to achieve 100% compliance as the deadline approaches.
The directive aims to ensure full compliance with the NIN-SIM linkage policy, and the NCC is working to finalize the process by the mid-September deadline.
