In a bold statement, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz, Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has expressed his optimism that Nigeria will achieve uninterrupted 24-hour power supply within the next five years. This projection surpasses earlier estimates, with Abdulaziz asserting that the target will be met in less than five years.
According to Abdulaziz, the current Minister’s problem-solving approach, rather than mere cosmetic measures, has instilled confidence in the possibility of success. He noted that since the regime change, Nigerians have acknowledged significant improvements in power supply, particularly since Adelabu took office.
Nigeria’s power sector has been undergoing comprehensive reforms aimed at expanding capacity, increasing electricity access, and upgrading transmission. The country has made strides in renewable energy, with a goal to increase its share to 13% by 2015, 23% by 2025, and 36% by 2030.
