The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has commenced a formal investigation into a viral video showing a female traveler destroying a Nigerian Standard Passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
The video, which circulated on social media, sparked widespread outrage and raised concerns about the treatment of Nigerian travel documents. In response, the NIS has launched a probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the individuals involved.
According to a statement by the NIS, the investigation will focus on determining the authenticity of the video, identifying the female traveler and airport officials present, and establishing the motivations behind the destructive act.
The NIS has assured the public that appropriate actions will be taken against anyone found to have compromised national security or violated immigration regulations. The incident has sparked a national conversation on the importance of respecting Nigerian travel documents and the need for increased vigilance at the country’s airports.
