The National Judicial Council (NJC) has nominated Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun for appointment as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). The recommendation was made at the NJC’s 106th meeting, presided over by the current CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, on August 14.
Justice Kekere-Ekun’s nomination will be forwarded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approval. If confirmed, she will become the second female CJN in Nigeria’s history.
In addition to Justice Kekere-Ekun’s nomination, the NJC also recommended 27 candidates for appointment as judges of state courts and a candidate for appointment as Kadi of the Sharia Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
