NYSC Registration: Minister Urges Calm, Assures Equal Opportunity for All Qualified Graduates

Amidst growing concerns from prospective corps members struggling to access the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) registration portal, Minister of State for Youth Development, Engr. Ayodele Olawande, has urged calm and assured that all qualified graduates will be mobilized. The Minister in a statement signed by his Technical Assistant on Media, Segun Sanusi emphasized that the NYSC is working to address the technical issues and ensure a smooth registration process for all eligible candidates.

The Minister, who has been keeping tabs on the situation, revealed that he has received reports of prospective corps members gathering at various NYSC state secretariats and has also been actively monitoring online discussions related to the issue. He emphasized that the NYSC is committed to being an equal opportunity scheme, ensuring that no eligible graduate is denied their right to participate in the mandatory national service.

“I have engaged the NYSC management, and in actual fact, they wished they could mobilize all intending corps members. However, the 37 Camps nationwide have prescribed carrying capacity that must not be exceeded in order to effectively cater to the wellbeing and convenience of corps members.

“Therefore, registration automatically ceased whenever the maximum number required for each Batch and Stream is attained. This was not done with the intention to deny any intending corps member his right to fully participate in the NYSC programme,” Olawande explained.

The Minister offered apologies to all prospective corps members who faced disappointment during the registration process. He explained that controlling enrollment into the camps was necessary to prevent overstretching facilities and causing unnecessary stress and discomfort for the youth participating in the national service scheme. Olawande then reaffirmed his commitment to leading efforts to expand and enhance NYSC Orientation Camps across the country. This expansion will enable the scheme to accommodate a larger number of corps members in each batch, improving the overall experience for participants.
