NYSC Suspends Biometric Clearance, CDS Over Protest Fears

Brig. Gen. Yushau Ahmed, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has ordered the suspension of all service activities and cautioned corps members against participating in the planned nationwide protest starting Thursday.

In a memo to local government and zonal inspectors, Ahmed, via NYSC spokesperson Eddy Megwa, instructed corps members to refrain from wearing their uniforms until further notice.

In addition to suspending service activities, the NYSC has also placed other mandatory programs, including biometric clearance and community development service, on hold due to the heightened tension surrounding the 10-day planned protest.

“Biometric clearance and CDS activities are suspended with immediate effect,” the memo stated. “Date for the resumption of these activities will be communicated to you in due course.”

Mr Ahmed insisted that “no corps member should participate in any protest” and directed zonal inspectors to ensure compliance with the orders at their designated stations.
