Olawande Attends Launch of Data Protection Certification Programme

Minister for Youth Development, Comrade Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele, attended the launch of the National Certification Programme for Data Protection Officers (DPOs) in Nigeria yesterday.

The programme, organized by the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC), aims to establish a domestic certification process for DPOs in Nigeria. Unveiled by Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the programme is set to reposition Nigeria as a leader in data protection and privacy across Africa.

According to the Youth Minister, the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on creating job opportunities for Nigerian youth in the digital economy. The certification programme is expected to enhance Nigeria’s data protection and privacy landscape, making it more attractive to investors and boosting the country’s digital economy.

The Minister emphasized that, with this program, Nigeria is taking a significant step towards ensuring the safe handling of personal data and promoting trust in the digital economy.
