The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its Acting National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum, and National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, over alleged anti-party activities. The suspension comes after the National Working Committee (NWC) extensively considered complaints against the duo regarding a letter they addressed to the Court of Appeal in Appeal No:CA/PH/307/2024.
This letter went against the party’s position in a case involving 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The NWC condemned this action, citing gross violation of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and their Oath of Office.
Consequently, Damagum and Anyanwu have been suspended as Acting National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action. They will also be barred from attending NWC meetings, activities, and programs pending the investigation’s conclusion.
However, in a surprising twist, a counter statement announced the suspension of Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary, and the party’s National Legal Adviser, citing “Act of Insubordination”. This development highlights the deepening crisis within the PDP.
