The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review the results of the Edo State Governorship election, citing discrepancies between polling unit results and the final tally.
At a press conference in Abuja on Monday, PDP Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum announced the party’s decision to challenge the election outcome in court.
“The people of Edo chose Dr. Asue Ighodalo as their next governor, and only their will, as expressed at the polling units, should stand,” Damagum emphasized.
He alleged that despite violence, intimidation, and manipulation by the All Progressives Congress (APC), initial results from polling units indicated a clear victory for the PDP candidate. However, these figures were altered during the state collation exercise in favor of the APC candidate.
Damagum expressed concerns about Nigeria’s democracy, accusing the APC of compromising INEC officials and security operatives to subvert the election.
“The judiciary’s handling of this case will determine whether Nigerians still have a country,” he warned.
