The Senate Committee on Agriculture, chaired by Senator Saliu Mustapha, recently presided over a joint budget defense session with the House Committee on Agricultural Production, Services & Rural Development.
The two-day session brought together lawmakers, ministry officials, and agency heads to review the 2025 budget estimates for the agricultural sector. Senator Mustapha emphasized the sector’s importance in ensuring food security and economic stability.
He expressed concern over soaring food prices and the need for urgent attention. With projections indicating 33.1 million Nigerians may face food insecurity in 2025, Senator Mustapha stressed the need for adequate budgetary provisions to address challenges like climate change and desertification.
