In a bold move to protect the health and safety of Nigerians and host communities, President Bola Tinubu has ordered a nationwide crackdown on illegal mining operations. The President emphasized the need to promote economic diversification, national security, and environmental responsibility in the mining sector.
During a meeting with participants of the National Defence College’s Course 32, President Tinubu commended their research on harnessing the mining industry for national development and security. He acknowledged the sector’s potential to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economy, but stressed the need for miners to prioritize environmental and social responsibility.
The President directed security agencies to intensify efforts against illegal miners, describing them as “scavengers and exploiters” who pose significant challenges to the country. He expressed confidence in the military’s ability to tackle this issue and ensure a stable economic environment.
In addition to the crackdown, President Tinubu assured the delegation that his administration would complete the NDC headquarters in Abuja, demonstrating his commitment to supporting the institution’s mission.
