President Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), making her the second female CJN in the country’s history.
Justice Kekere-Ekun, a renowned jurist, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Born on May 7, 1958, she has had a distinguished legal career spanning over four decades. She obtained her law degree from the University of Lagos and was called to the bar in 1981. She later earned her LL.M from the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science in 1983.
Her impressive judicial career includes serving as Senior Magistrate Grade II, Lagos State Judiciary, Judge of the High Court of Lagos State, and Chairman of the Robbery and Firearms Tribunal. She was elevated to Justice of the Court of Appeal in 2004 and later appointed to the Supreme Court in 2013.
As CJN, Justice Kekere-Ekun is expected to bring her expertise and leadership to the judiciary, upholding the principles of justice and integrity. Her appointment is a significant milestone in Nigeria’s legal history, inspiring future generations of legal professionals.
Outside of law, Justice Kekere-Ekun enjoys reading, music, information technology, and counselling, showcasing her well-rounded personality.
