Unilorin Appoints First Female Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies

The University of Ilorin has made history with the appointment of Abosede R. Omowumi Babatunde as the institution’s first Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies. Academics have lavished praise on this exceptional accomplishment.
Professor Babatunde, a renowned expert in her field, boasts an impressive academic background, including a Master’s degree and PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Ibadan. She has received numerous distinguished academic fellowships, including the African Humanities Postdoctoral Fellowship, American Council of Learned Societies Research Fellowship, and Rachel Carson Centre Fellowship, among others.
A prolific scholar, Professor Babatunde has held various prestigious research positions globally, including at Brown University, University of Oxford, and Ludwig-Maximilians University. She is a member of several academic and professional associations, including the International Peace Research Association and African Studies Association.
As Coordinator of the international program at the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies, Professor Babatunde has chaired numerous committees and serves as Desk Officer for the Centre’s engagement with government agencies and civil society organizations.
This appointment solidifies Professor Babatunde’s position as a leading voice in Peace and Conflict Studies in Nigeria and beyond.
