The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has hailed the U.S. government for sanctioning politicians who undermined Nigeria’s democracy through election-related violence during the last general elections.
Atiku, who spoke through a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe yesterday, also commended the United States for standing with the Nigerian people against those he described as undemocratic forces.
The former vice president said the decision of the U.S. government to impose visa restrictions on politicians who acted with impunity during the elections, proved the case of the PDP that the poll which brought President Muhammadu Buhari to power was rigged.
He said, “It seems that day has come. After many months of living in denial, the Buhari regime is now faced with the truth in the form of a US visa ban on politicians who undermined Nigeria’s democracy.”
Recall that the U.S. State Department, through its spokesperson, Ms Morgan Ortagus, on Wednesday, announced visa restrictions on politicians whose acts of violence, intimidation, or corruption harmed Nigerians or undermined the country’s democratic process.
