Justice Darius Khobo of Kaduna State High Court, will on Monday, August 5, deliver ruling on the bail application filed by the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat.
In their application for bail, the duo prayed the court for permission to travel to India for medical attention, citing insufficient medical care while in detention.
The Shiites leader stated in the application that he and his wife would return to Nigeria as soon as they are discharged.
The counsel to the applicants, Femi Falana (SAN), while briefing reporters after today’s court session, said his clients, El-Zakzaky and Zeenat, were in urgent need of medical attention, having been denied adequate medical care since their incarceration on December 14, 2015.
Falana explained that El-Zakzaky, who had lost one eye was on the verge of losing the second one, noting that the IMN leader was not in court today because of his deteriorating health.
Notwithstanding, the counsel to the respondents, who doubles as the Kaduna State Director of Public Prosecution, Dari Bayero, argued otherwise, stating that his team through the help of local and foreign physicians had examined the eight medical reports outlined in El-Zakzaky’s bail application, and discovered that his condition could be adequately catered for in several medical facilities in Nigeria.
The applicants, however expressed hope that the court would grant El-Zakzaky’s request for oversea treatment.
