The Ode Alfa Nda Joint Community Development Association (OJCDA), on Sunday, carried out its “War Against Drug Abuse” campaign at the Sholagberu primary school, Ode Alfa Nda community in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In view of the worrisome rate of drug abuse across the state, the OJCDA, through its facilitators, initiated the sensitization programme for children within the community on the negative ripple effects of drug abuse.

According to a renowned community development practitioner, who doubles as the Project Manager and Secretary of the association, Mr. Lawal O. Olohungbebe, the sensitization campaign became imperative considering that the society was saturated with all sorts of drug abusers who openly consume banned substances in the full glare of curious children who might grow accustomed to the illicit habit.

“The kids go out everyday and they see boys and girls openly taking drugs, especially substances like Marijuana. If we do not engage them about it, they are most likely to consider it normal. That’s why we engaged them on it”, he said.

Olohungbebe, also recounted the highpoints of the event to INSIDER.

“We showed them movies and documentaries on drug abuse. We believe what they see sticks to their memory more than what they hear.

“After watching the movies, they shared lessons learnt with their mates and reactions followed.

“It is our resolution that periodically, issues like this will be discussed with appropriate groups in the community”, he stated.

In attendance were the Chairman of the OJCDA, Alhaji Saka Danfo, the Treasurer, Alh. Ganiyu Kosiwon and other members from Ajara, Beki, Ottan, Sholagberu, Aiyelabegan and Wopa compounds in the community.
