Buhari’s ex-minister, ‘Mama Taraba’ joins PDP

A former Minister of Women Affairs, Jummai Alhassan aka Mama Taraba, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the United Democratic Party (UDP).

It would be recalled that the former minister, had on September 29, 2018, forwarded her resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Sequel to her resignation from the president’s cabinet, she also decamped from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the United Democratic Party (UDP), taking along with her all local government party leaders as well as some state lawmakers.

The prominent female politician, who contested the 2019 Taraba governorship election on the platform of the UDP, had an impressive showing at the polls after garnering 16,289 votes to queue behind the PDP candidate, Sani Danladi who scored 362,735 votes and the eventual winner, Governor Darius Ishaku who polled a total votes of 520,433.

Announcing her defection to the PDP after a stakeholders meeting today in Jalingo, she said her decision was based on the majority decision of the UDP stakeholders.

Present at the occasion, were representatives of UDP members from 168 wards across the 16 local government areas of the state.
