The newly sworn-in Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazak has been urged to publicly declare his assets, sign the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill into law and announce his Chief of Staff within his first 30 days in office.

The State Coordinator for Society for Continuum of Change and Development (SCCD), Issa Mutolib Ayobami, and a writer and public analyst, Ibraheem Abdullateef made these demands on a radio program sponsored by pro-democracy group EnoughIsEnough (EiE.ng) on Sobi FM, Ilorin, on Thursday morning.

Mr. Abdullateef, beseeched the governor to prove his commitment to transparency and accountability by publicly stating his assets, which will reflect a sterling example for his potential cabinet members to emulate.

Abdullateef further maintained that such act of integrity will sustain the good governance and dividends of democracy being craved for by the people of Kwara State.

On the passage of the FOI bill, he stressed that the new governor should give credible support to it, to demonstrate uncommon commitment to openness and honesty by his administration

He added that both himself and the majority of Kwarans aren’t unaware of the humongous challenges confronting the new administration, but expressed hope that the new government will succeed as long as they put the interest of the people first at all times.

Mr Issa Ayobami charged the Abdulrazaq-led administration to take workers welfare with great importance, and further counseled the government to pursue policies that are masses-inclined, rather than personalising and politicising government programs.

Passionate calls were also made to the governor to set up his cabinet in earnest, so as to help the state government hit the ground running.
