The immediate past Governor of Osun State and newly appointed Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has revealed he knows little to nothing about the policies and operations of his assigned ministry.
Aregbesola, who visited the Ministry of Interior shortly after the ministerial inauguration in Abuja today, added that all he knew about the ministry was the little he could find in the newspapers.
He said, “I don’t really know much about the operations or policies of the ministry apart from stories about the ministry on the pages of newspapers. My relationship with the ministry is distant. What I know about the ministry is what I read in the newspapers.”
He, however directed the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Georgina Ehuriah, to take charge of operations pending his resumption on Monday.
“I will come to take over on Monday. I give the Permanent Secretary the grace to run the ministry till then. We will be ready by Monday to take on the huge assignment”, Aregbesola noted.
The new minister pledged his commitment to ensuring a realistic, reasonable and commendable leadership.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Ehuriah, stated that the Interior Ministry was in dire need of a focused person like Aregbesola to direct its operations, taking into cognizance the ministry’s strategic position in the security architecture of the country.
