By David Olalekan.

A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) identified as Mr. Okoro, who’s in charge of Galilee Police Station, Ute-Ogbeje community in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, has been freed by his abductors.

According to sources within the state police command who spoke to pressmen, the DPO was reportedly seized by a kidnap gang along Benin-Asaba Expressway on Friday, and was released on Sunday after a N3m ransom was paid.

The Delta State Police Commissioner, Adeyinka Adeleke, has however denied the abduction and payment of ransom.

Adeleke stated that it was the DPO’s friend that was kidnapped and no ransom was paid.

He maintained that the police was averse to negotiating with criminals for payment of ransom.
