The Kwara State House of Assembly has passed the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill into law.

The bill was passed by the House yesterday, after it endorsed the 32 clauses in the report as presented by the Information Committee following the outcome of a public hearing on the bill.

The FOI bill advocates for easy access to public records and information, as well as protect public records from unauthorised persons in public interest.

The clerk of the house, Alimah Perogi, has been directed by the Speaker to forward a clean copy of the bill to the governor for ratification.

The Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad, appealed to the governor to always assent to bills put forward to him by the 9th Assembly in order to promote sustainable development.

The House also charged the newly sworn-in governor to operate an open door policy and inclusive governance to foster development in the state.
