Shiites protest turns violent, policeman shot at National Assembly Complex

It’s been a chaotic afternoon at the National Assembly Complex, as ongoing demonstration by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, turned bloody.

According to reports, the members of the group who were protesting the continued detention of their spiritual leader, El-Zakzaky, allegedly disarmed a security operative before using the weapon on a policeman stationed at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

The protesters had reportedly forced their way through the first gate of the complex, despite shots fired in the air by security operatives in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

Further reports also revealed that the policeman who was shot has been rushed to the hospital unconscious, while a police vehicle was damaged by the protesters.
