Mrs Funke Olakunrin, daughter of the renowned national leader of the Pan Yoruba Socio- Political group, Afenifere, Pa Ruben Fasoranti, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

According to eyewitness report, Funke was shot by suspected Fulani herdsmen at Ore junction in Ondo State yesterday.

However, the Ondo State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Femi Joseph, made contrary claims about the incident, stating that armed robbers struck on the Benin-Sagamu Expressway, kidnapping other passengers during the incident.

Mrs Olakunrin, the 58-year-old daughter of the Afenifere leader was reported to have died of gunshot wounds.

Reacting to the sad incident, President Muhammadu Buhari commiserated with Reuben Fasoranti in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

The statement reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari condoles with Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, whose daughter, Mrs Funke Olakunrin was killed along Ondo-Ore road by those described as armed robbers by Ondo Police Command.

“He prays God to give Pa Fasoranti fortitude to bear the loss.”
