The governor of Taraba state, Mr. Darius Ishaku today (Thursday) dissolved the Taraba State House of Assembly and sets June 3 for the proclamation of the ninth assembly.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, the governor announced the decision through a letter he sent to the Assembly Speaker, Mr. Peter Diah, which was read at the last plenary of the eighth assembly and adopted by members.
The outgoing Speaker, in his valedictory speech, applauded his colleagues their commitment to duty which, according to him, promoted the excellent working relationship the assembly enjoyed with the other arms of government.
“I must commend the members of the house for the good working relationship we had with the executive, judiciary and among ourselves,” the Speaker said.
While remembering two former members of the House, Hosea Ibi, former member representing Takum 1 who was kidnapped and later killed by his abductors, as well as Mr Emmanuel Dame, a former member representing Ardo Kola constituency; the lawmakers took turns to pour encomium and praises on their late colleagues.
