The rally that puts Osinbajo on the spot

By Lekan Ibiyemi.

Nigerians are aware that the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is currently battling to rid himself of a number of allegations, including those relating to the conduct of his official functions, especially his management of the agencies under his direct supervision and the disbursement of the monies meant for the government’s social investment programmes.

There was also an allegation by a former official of Professor Osinbajo’s party, the APC, Mr. Timi Frank who alleged that the vice president got a large sum of 90 billion naira from the country’s revenue agency, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to prosecute the 2019 election in the South West.

However, while observers have continued to advance reasons for the myriad of allegations and seeming persecution being faced by Osinbajo recently; photos have emerged online of a group canvassing support for a yet to be declared ‘Osinbajo for 2023’ presidential ambition.

The group, which goes by the name Southwest Youth Congress, held a rally in Ondo State where it canvassed support for Professor Osinbajo ahead of the 2023 election.

Considering that members of the youth group were adorned in colorful t-shirts, with Osinbajo’s photo prominently engraved on it; many within the corridors of power in Abuja were said to have reasoned that the youths must have been sponsored by an ally of Osinbajo with the tacit approval of the Vice President.
