The Independent National Electoral Commission has revealed that over 1,689 court cases had arisen from the 2019 general election.
The INEC National Electoral Commissioner in charge of Niger, Kogi and Nasarawa States, Mallam Mohammed Haruna disclosed this in Lafia today during the state level post-election review retreat.
According to Mr Haruna, about 890 of the cases were pre-election matters which emanated from the conduct of political party primaries, while 799 were election petitions at the various tribunals across the country.
He added that the pre-election cases were an indication that political parties in the country had a lot to do in ensuring democratic practices in their selection process.
Haruna noted that the outcome of the review of the 2019 general election with inputs from the various stakeholders would improve subsequent elections in the country, as measures would be taken to address the shortcomings of the previous polls.
