A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and presidential flag-bearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2019 elections, Dr. Obadiah Mailafia, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) tried to blackmail him into joining the party during the build-up to the general elections.
Dr. Mailafia, who spoke in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, during a meeting of ADC stakeholders at the national secretariat of the party revealed that some stalwarts of the APC had approached him to join the party or face prosecution for a crime allegedly committed in the CBN over 10 years ago.
He added that he rejected the offer while questioning the intellectual capacity of President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he noted was of the analogue generation and had never used a computer.
“Just before the elections, there were pressures on me and I was even interrogated by security agencies over something that happened in the CBN about 10 years ago which was not even in my department.
“They blackmailed me that if I join APC, I would be forgiven. I told them, why can’t they join me? I even asked them why can’t President Muhammadu Buhari come and join my party, ACD?
“What does he have that I don’t have more than him? Is it their analogue generation that will save Nigeria? Somebody that has never even used a computer. What have they to offer Nigeria again”, Dr. Mailafia queried.
The ADC presidential candidate polled a total of 97,874 votes to clinch the fourth position in the 2019 presidential election.
