JUST IN: Kogi Assembly sets to impeach deputy governor

By Amos Adebayo

The deputy governor of Kogi State, Mr. Samuel Achuba, is about to be impeached by the state house of assembly.

Earlier in the day, the majority leader of the house, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, read a petition against Achuba at plenary. He also called for the impeachment of the deputy governor with a claim that 21 lawmakers, out of 25, have signed up for it.

In his contribution, a member representing Ajaokuta constituency cited section 188 of 1999 constitution and thereafter prayed the house to commence investigation ahead of the impeachment of the deputy governor.

Kolawole Matthew, speaker of the house of assembly, agreed to the prayers in the petition and asked that impeachment notice be served on the deputy governor.

Matthew gave Achuba 14 days to respond to the allegations levelled against him.

It would be recalled that the deputy governor has been in a sustained war of attrition with the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, whom he accused of withholding his salaries and allowances to the tune of N819 million.
