Owode market traders defy Oloffa’s order, reject imposition of new Iyaloja

The directive issued by the Oloffa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye, installing a new Iyaloja for the popular Owode market has been staunchly rejected by the traders.

The Offa monarch, who announced the appointment of Mrs Idiat Ige-Ishola as the new Iyaloja of the market following the demise of the former Iyaloja, Alhaja Shifau Raji Dogo Apeke, has been asked by the protesting traders to immediately reverse the appointment.

The traders, citing “imposition of Iyaloja on them” as reason for their protest, embarked on a peaceful rally to the homes of some respected elders in the town, asking them to prevail on the Oloffa for a reversal of his decree.

The traders were however urged to remain peaceful, as efforts were being put in place to resolve the issue.
