Pilgrims yet to be airlifted to Saudi Arabia have blocked the entrance of the Ilorin International Airport in protest over alleged abandonment by the pilgrims board.
The pilgrims, identified to be from Ekiti and Ondo States, were reportedly left stranded when the flight scheduled to convey them to the holy land yesterday failed to show up, with no detailed response from the airport authorities.
While a part of the stranded pilgrims were heard demanding a refund of their payment, others lamented the ‘outrageous’ cost of commodities at the airport which has left them cash strapped.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, earlier this morning, refuted claims that some of the protesting pilgrims were from Kwara.
He stressed that the last batch of Kwara pilgrims have since been airlifted to Hajj.
